STEPHEN FRANCIS BALDO WHO? by Maria Cristina Gorrospe

Footsteps, light but sure,
from a land not so far away,
appeared on the sands
to guide, to be followed…

Stephen Francis B. Baldo… He is the leader whose arrival did not include a parade and fireworks, but his subordinates and colleagues in the field were in jubilation when he came. He was a resident in Pathology at the St. Luke's Medical Center prior to entering the faculty force of Trinity University of Asia in 1994, handling Histopathology and Histology classes in the College of Medical Technology. In his 12 years of professorial service to the university, he was made Acting Dean of said college.

A calling to teach,
to teach servant-leadership,
to serve with inspiration,
to inspire virtuousness
in the little space he moved in…

Steve, as what he is fondly called by family and friends, is a native of Tadian, Mountain Province. He is guided by the bible teaching "Therefore, don't be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day's own evil is sufficient." (Matthew 6:34). He considers his personal victory to see to be part of the successes of people he meets inside and outside of the academe. It give him immense sense of fulfillment to pass on his knowledge to students, see them get good grades, watch them march and receive their diplomas, or become doctors like him.

He is a simple guy who works admirably in the space he moves around in. His colleagues see him as a man of integrity. He exhibits excellent rapport with everyone he works with and is sincere in his dealings. He is always concerned about the welfare of both his students and team he leads.

A son born into a family,
a spouse loved,
a father, caring and guiding,
a friend at all times…

Born to Joseph, a regional administrative officer of Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Hannah, a regional health nurse supervisor of CAR, Steve is the youngest. His sister is always abroad that he was privileged to be the apple of the eye of his parents. He was a good son; passing with flying colors all his parents' expectations on him.

Steve is a loving, caring husband to his wife, Mercedes, who is a physician specializing in Family Medicine. He and his wife run Abat Medical and Lying-in Clinic in Binalonan, Pangasinan. Steve is a Christian father, who is both a strict parent and good friend to his children, Harvey Francis, age 18 and Stephanie Marie, 9. He raised his kids knowing the virtues of honesty and humility.

Though a timid and quite, Steve has a lot of friends. He believes that loyalty and sincerity as good chains that bind friendships together. Looking reserved and just observant, he is a joy to be with because of his humor.

A spirit imbued with great knowledge and skill,
a body, younger than youth,
a soul, wiser than the elders…

Dr. Stephen Francis S. Baldo's days are not only made up of administrative duties, histopathologic and histologic lectures, and academic meetings with department heads and faculty. He fills his days with reading thriller and sci-fi fiction stories, playing folksong on his guitar, collecting stamps, and being a chef extraordinaire in their kitchen. He is into sports as well -- basketball, volleyball, table and lawn tennis.

In a corner of the universe
a boy became a man,
a faculty turned into dean,
a mentor into a friend.
